Don't hide your smile, improve it! Cosmetic dentistry in Garden Grove, CA, & Newport Beach, CA, can help give you the confidence to smile again. Dr. Timothy Bui offers a variety of cosmetic treatments for all your dental needs.

Teeth Whitening

The first thing that most people who want to improve their smile think about is teeth whitening. Regular brushing keeps your teeth healthy, but for a truly bright white smile, you should consider professional whitening. In-office whitening only takes an hour and brightens your smile by up to eight shades.

If you have chipped or cracked teeth your dentist may recommend this treatment. Using a dental bonding material, your dentist will fill and reshape your damaged teeth.

Dental Veneers

Veneers are another alternative to enhance your smile, provided by your cosmetic dentist in Garden Grove, CA, & Newport Beach, CA. They are thin shells that cover the front surface of your teeth to cover imperfections and give you a perfect smile.

Dental Implants

If you have one or more teeth that can't be repaired with bonding or veneers or have a gap in your smile, dental implants are an excellent option because they can replace one or more teeth. Titanium posts are affixed to the patient's jaw and it is on these that the replacement crown is bonded, making for a very long-lasting addition to your smile.

Your dentist can find the best combination of cosmetic treatments specifically for you.

Dr. Timothy Bui and Dr. Caden Lim are cosmetic dentists who perform many services, including teeth whitening, in Garden Grove, CA & Newport Beach, CA. Each dentist has over two decades of experience under their belts and is highly professional dentists.

The Steps to Teeth Whitening

Your dentist will begin by inspecting your teeth and mouth and then recording your teeth’ “before” shade. To start, your dentist will begin with polishing your teeth using an abrasive called pumice. This removes the largest volume of plaque off your teeth that may otherwise be difficult to remove with brushing alone.

Next, your mouth will be dried using gauze and a vacuuming machine. Retractors and barriers are also used. These are plastic pieces that prevent your cheeks, tongue, and lips from coming in contact with the whitening agent.

Now it’s time for your dentist to coat the front of your teeth with the whitening solution. The solution usually includes carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide as the main tooth bleaching ingredients. Peroxide needs to be activated, which your dentist will do using a curing light or a laser.

After the peroxide is activated, the solution immediately gets to work whitening your teeth. Depending on the peroxide style, stain severity, and the dentist’s beliefs, this solution will need to sit, undisturbed, on your teeth for sixty to ninety minutes. Your dentist may or may not apply the whitening solution periodically; this depends on the product used and the dentist’s preferences.

Once your teeth are the shade you desire, or ninety minutes pass, your teeth will be rinsed. Your dentist may or may not provide a fluoride application in order to ease mild tooth discomfort or tooth sensitivity.

If you are happy with the results, you are finished. If you’re still seeking an even whiter smile, you may come back to your dentist later for additional treatments. Our cosmetic dentists, Dr. Timothy Bui and Dr. Caden Lim are professionals at teeth whitening and serve the Garden Grove, CA & Newport Beach, CA areas.

After completing your teeth whitening procedure, it is strongly recommended that you do not consume foods or beverages with staining tendencies for at least twenty-four hours, though forty-eight is strongly preferred. The forbidden foods and drinks include but are not limited to: cola, coffee, tea, red wine, smoking, tobacco products, tomato products, mustard, beets, red or black grapes, and candy.

Dental bonding can quickly, and affordably, correct a number of smile imperfections. Not all of them require major intervention, and bonding is the perfect solution for these, but there are some conditions that are best served by other treatments. So it's important to discuss with your dentist your expectations so you can both can decide if dental bonding is right for you. To learn more get in contact with your local Newport Beach and Garden Grove, CA, cosmetic dentists Dr. Timothy Bui and Dr. Caden Lim.

How Dental Bonding Works

The material used in dental bonding is commonly known as composite resin, as it combines a mixture of either glass or quartz with a resin medium to create the tooth-colored substance used to repair your teeth.

Your dentist applies it in layers over the tooth, using a special light to harden it and to bond it to the enamel. Layer upon layer is then built up in this way. Once there is enough, the tooth is reshaped and polished to match your natural teeth.

What Dental Bonding Can Do

The treatment is not as durable as other cosmetic dentistry procedures but it can still last many years with proper care. Some like to use dental bonding as a temporary solution, but on its own, it can address many problems.

Problems like damaged teeth, whether the damage was incurred by trauma, decay, or wear, or in treating teeth lacking length.

Slight spacing problems can also be fixed by treating the two adjacent teeth with dental bonding, thus minimizing the gap.
