Find out which cosmetic treatment fits your smile needs.

Everyone should have a smile they love. If you find yourself covering your smile whenever you laugh or talk, you might want to consider talking with your Garden Grove, and Newport Beach, CA, cosmetic dentist Dr. Timothy Bui about your options. It’s never too late to have a smile that you can’t wait to show off. Dr. Bui and his team can help. Here are some of our top cosmetic options.

Teeth Whitening

If commercial products just aren’t cutting it, it might be time to consider professional teeth whitening. Teeth whitening is particularly effective against yellowing teeth. Plus, when you come into the office for this treatment, we can tailor our whitening treatment to meet your needs.

The bleaching gel is placed on the teeth for about 15 minutes at a time, and then a special laser is directed at your teeth to activate the gel. In about an hour we can get teeth anywhere from three to seven shades brighter. With the proper care, teeth whitening results can last a year or more.

Dental Veneers

If you have minor gaps, overcrowding, chips, cracks, or other dental flaws, you may be looking for a way to hide these esthetic problems. Now you can with dental veneers. These small porcelain shells adhere to the front of your teeth to cover imperfections and give you a pristine smile.

First, your Garden Grove, and Newport Beach, CA, cosmetic dentist will remove a small bit of enamel from the front surface of your teeth to make room for the veneers. Veneers are affixed in place using a special dental resin, which we harden permanently to the tooth using a laser. Together we will choose the appropriate shade for your veneers prior to having them made.

Cosmetic Bonding

This is the most economic and non-invasive way to change your smile. Cosmetic bonding uses the same tooth-colored resin that is used to fill cavities. By shaping and molding this resin, we can easily cover chips and minor cracks, and even close small gaps between teeth. While bonding doesn’t fix more major dental problems, it can be a wonderful option for someone looking to correct more minor cosmetic issues.

Want to analyze your smile to see if you could be right for cosmetic dentistry? Your cosmetic dentist, Dr. Bui, created a series of videos to help you figure it out. To schedule a cosmetic consultation at our Garden Grove, and Newport Beach, CA, locations, call (949)-675-7750 or (714) 537-0550 today.

At-Home Tips for a Whiter Smile

Cosmetic dentistry doesn't need to be an expensive procedure. Here are a few tips:

  • Brush and floss daily. Believe it or not, preventive dentistry is better than most cosmetic procedures. Brushing and flossing daily will help remove plaque and prevent the yellowing of teeth for the most part. Using a special tooth whitening toothpaste, and brushing and flossing the right way, are also important points or factors to consider. Here are videos to show you the right way to brush and floss.
  • A professional dental cleaning can remove those tough stains that daily brushing and flossing can't remove. Professional dental cleanings should be done twice a year and consists of your Newport Beach and Garden Grove cosmetic dentist scaling, polishing, and removing accumulated tartar from tooth surfaces and under gums. Dr. Bui loosens the tough stains and washes them away using a gentle stream of water to rejuvenate your smile. Easier and faster than most cosmetic dentistry procedures.
  • Dr. Bui also provides patients with home teeth whitening. He takes impressions of your teeth to make custom-fitted upper and lower trays. The patient places the provided bleaching gels in the trays and wears them for an hour. Depending on the severity of your stains, you may need to do this for two-to-three times a week after dinner.

If you are interested in veneers for your teeth, Dr. Timothy Bui in Newport Beach and Garden Grove can help.

Porcelain veneers have been in the news recently as a cosmetic dental treatment for everyone, according to The Atlantic veneersmagazine. You might have heard about veneers, and we want to provide you with more information with frequently asked questions about dental veneers.

What are porcelain veneers?

Veneers are slim pieces of porcelain or plastic that are bonded to your teeth. Cosmetic dentistry uses veneers as a product to fix dental imperfections such as front tooth gaps, chipped teeth, discolored teeth, or severely stained teeth. They can also be used to fix dental issues from injury, crooked teeth, and cracked teeth.

What is the process of getting veneers?

The American Dental Association (ADA) states that you should plan for multiple cosmetic dental appointments when you are getting veneers. The first appointment may only be an assessment and consultation with your cosmetic dentist.

During the next appointment, the dentist in Newport Beach, CA, will shave off a portion of enamel from the teeth receiving the veneers. An impression (or mold) will be taken of the patient's teeth, and sent out to a dental technician lab where the veneers are made.

Once the veneers have been created, the patient will come back for another appointment. During this appointment, the dentist will place the veneers and bond them to the teeth.

How long do dental veneers last?

Putting veneers on your teeth is an irreversible cosmetic dental procedure. Since the dentist removes a portion of enamel from the teeth, veneers are meant to be permanent once they are bonded to teeth.

The typical lifespan of veneers is 7-15 years; however, the ADA says that longevity of dental veneers depends on the habits and care of the patient. People who grind their teeth may chip veneers sooner than the average expectancy.

Dental VeneersBreathe new life back into your appearance with the help of dental veneers.

Improving the look of your smile is easier than ever thanks to cosmetic dentistry. If imperfections are keeping you from the smile you want, dental veneers from our Newport Beach, CA, cosmetic dentists, Dr. Timothy Bui and Dr. Caden Lim, can help turn your smile around for the long term.

What are dental veneers?

These simple porcelain shells can make major changes to your appearance by altering the overall look of your smile. If you find yourself hiding your smile because of cracks, chips, discolorations, or crookedness, then veneers may be the solution you’ve been looking for.

These very thin porcelain shells are made to cover the entire front surface of each tooth. Each veneer is bonded to the front of a tooth with a special dental resin, which is hardened into place with a dental laser. Medical-grade porcelain is a great material from which to create your veneers, as they match the color, translucency, and overall look of real tooth enamel.

What issues can dental veneers address?

You may be an ideal candidate for dental veneers if you are dealing with,

  • Discolorations that don’t respond to teeth whitening
  • Chips and cracks
  • Small gaps between teeth
  • Misshapen or worn down teeth
  • Slightly twisted or crooked teeth
  • Minor crowding

The addition of veneers can also help strengthen a tooth and make it more resilient. If you have a cosmetic flaw that affects the overall shape, size, color, or alignment of your smile, then dental veneers may be able to help.

What is the process of getting dental veneers like?

The dentists at our Newport Beach office will often be able to place your veneers in just two visits over the course of one to two weeks. The first part of getting veneers requires us to prep your teeth. Although the process of tooth preparation is very minimal, we will still need to shave down about ½ mm of enamel from the front of your teeth so the veneers can fit properly without looking bulky or unnatural.

Once the teeth are prepped we will also need to take molds of your teeth. This will help a dental lab to create your very own, custom-fitted veneers. It can take up to a week or more for your veneers to be made. Once they are complete, you will come back in so that we can check their appearance before bonding them permanently to your smile. With the proper care, veneers can last up to 10 years or more.

Teeth Whitening SmileWant That Glamorous Smile?

Dr. Timothy Bui offers teeth whitening in his Garden Grove and Newport Beach, CA, offices. Read below to learn of the three types of teeth whitening procedures provided by his practice!

At-Home Teeth Whitening

This form of whitening utilizes custom-made upper and lower trays made for you to take home. Dr. Bui will instruct you to place bleaching gels in these trays and to wear them after dinner for an hour. You should do this every evening for 2-3 weeks, depending on how much work your teeth need.

In-Office Teeth Whitening

For this method, Dr. Bui will begin by placing a device in your mouth that is designed to keep the cheeks and lips open, while also preventing soft tissue from coming in contact with soon to be applied bleaching gel. Your dentist will then administer the gel on your teeth and begin exposing them to ARC light to accelerate and amplify tooth whitening. While this is happening, relaxing music will be played to create a sense of comfort.

You may find his procedure better than the at-home teeth whitening kit because there is a lessened possibility of teeth sensitivity and gum discomfort. Additionally, the procedure is quicker and provides more immediate results.

Laser Teeth Whitening

During laser teeth whitening, Dr. Bui will isolate your teeth from the gums and lips using a specialized retractor. He'll then apply powder or liquid gel on the teeth and use a pulsating laser beam to whiten them. This process can be repeated 2-6 times.

Similar to the in-office method, this procedure is advantageous because there's a lessened possibility of teeth sensitivity and fast results.
